Early Life and Jedi Training
Anakin was born on Tatooine, a desert planet, and raised as a slave with his mother, Shmi Skywalker. He had no father and was believed to have been conceived by the Force, making him the prophesied Chosen One destined to bring balance to the Force.
At age 9, he was discovered by Qui-Gon Jinn, who sensed his immense Force potential. After Qui-Gon’s death, Obi-Wan Kenobi trained Anakin as his Padawan under the Jedi Order. Despite his talent, Anakin struggled with Jedi teachings, especially their strict emotional discipline.
The Clone Wars and Rise to Power
During the Clone Wars, Anakin became a skilled Jedi Knight and war hero. He trained a Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, and formed a close friendship with Chancellor Palpatine, who secretly manipulated him toward the dark side.
Over time, Anakin grew disillusioned with the Jedi, believing they were hypocritical and distrustful of him. His fear of losing his loved ones, especially his secret wife, Padmé Amidala, made him vulnerable to manipulation.
Fall to the Dark Side (Darth Vader)
Palpatine, who was actually the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, exploited Anakin’s fears, promising him the power to save Padmé from a vision of her death. In desperation, Anakin betrayed the Jedi and became Darth Vader, slaughtering Jedi—including younglings—in the Jedi Temple.
He fought Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustafar, where he was defeated and left for dead. Burned and mutilated, he was saved by Palpatine and encased in the iconic black armor and respirator of Darth Vader.
Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire
Now a Sith Lord, Vader became the enforcer of the Empire, hunting Jedi survivors and helping Palpatine rule through fear. He was ruthless, feared, and consumed by anger, believing that Padmé had died because of him.
However, despite his brutal rule, a small part of Anakin remained, buried beneath the Sith persona.
Redemption and Return to the Light
Years later, Vader discovered he had a son—Luke Skywalker—who refused to believe that his father was beyond redemption.
In Return of the Jedi, Vader faced a choice when Emperor Palpatine tried to kill Luke. In a final act of defiance, Anakin turned against Palpatine, throwing him into the Death Star’s reactor shaft. This act fulfilled the prophecy, destroying the Sith and bringing balance to the Force.
Mortally wounded, Anakin removed his helmet to see Luke with his own eyes before dying. His spirit later appeared as a Force ghost, alongside Obi-Wan and Yoda, fully redeemed.
