Sylvanas Windrunner is one of the most iconic and complex characters in World of Warcraft (WoW) lore. She has played multiple roles throughout the game's history, from a heroic ranger-general to a ruthless undead leader, making her one of the most compelling figures in the Warcraft universe.

Early Life and Death

Sylvanas was once the Ranger-General of Silvermoon, the leader of the high elven forces who protected Quel'Thalas. During the events of Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, Arthas Menethil, the Death Knight leading the Scourge, invaded Quel'Thalas. Sylvanas fiercely defended her homeland, but ultimately, Arthas killed her and raised her as a banshee, forcing her into servitude.

Breaking Free and Forming the Forsaken

After Arthas weakened due to events in The Frozen Throne, Sylvanas regained her free will and took control of some of the undead that had also broken free, forming the Forsaken. She became their queen, ruling from the Undercity and aligning them with the Horde.

Role in World of Warcraft

• Burning Crusade & Wrath of the Lich King: She sought revenge against Arthas and played a major role in the Northrend campaign that eventually led to his defeat.

• Cataclysm: She expanded Forsaken territory, using the Val'kyr to create more undead.

• Battle for Azeroth: She became Warchief of the Horde, burned down Teldrassil (Night Elf homeland), and increasingly pursued darker goals.

• Shadowlands: It was revealed she had been working with the Jailer, the main antagonist of the expansion, to reshape existence itself. Eventually, she was defeated and forced to redeem herself.
